The Top 10 Google Adwords Newbie Mistakes

Google Adwords is a very good service for people to advertise their product or service on the Internet. Do this right you can gain a lot of traffic without spending too much on the advertising cost, and gain profit from the traffic. Do this wrong you can lose a lot of money without getting much traffic to your website. Here’s a list of the top 10 Google Adwords mistakes:

Number 10: Allowing Google to manage your bids by not disabling Budget Optimizer. This is often a killer for people who first start with Google Adwords. Because this is turned on by default and it sounds great by having “Google to manage all of your bids”, Newbie(s) usually leave it on by default. Now because Newbie(s) usually don’t have any idea on keyword research they often have Google bid on competitive keywords, paying few bucks per click. This sure drains the budget fast.

Number 9: Not having appealing ads. A good ad pulls interest from people searching on Google; it leaves people with question marks in their minds on problems they have so that people tend to want to click on the ad to have their questions answered.

Number 8: Lying on their ads in order to obtain more clicks. If the ad does not reflect the content of the landing page, the visitors will exit the site immediately because they are not seeing what they are expecting. For example, many put the word “FREE” in their ad to attract visitors but there’s nothing free within the content of the landing page.

Number 7: Not targeting the right people. Many newbie(s) start by targeting the entire world thinking “Oh the more countries my ad is exposed to the more clicks I will get”. The rate at which your visitor becomes a customer (CR = Conversion Rate) is different in different countries. For example, if your product or service is in English, you might occasionally get clicks from people who can’t really understand English if you target countries that don’t have English as the primary language. They click and leave because they can’t fully understand what you are trying to present so your product or service is not convincing to them.

Number 6: Not having a quality landing page. In order for Google Adwords to work and make profit for you, your landing page needs to have quality content that will actually convert your visitors into customers. Google Adwords will get you the traffic but it’s up to you to convert your visitors into your customers.

Number 5: Giving up early. People who are new to Google Adwords often become frustrated after spending money in advertising and not receiving any returns. People who succeed are the ones who are willing to experience and learn continuously.

Number 4: Having too much keywords in an ad group. Google does not like a list of 100 keywords all together in one ad group. If you do that it will hurt the quality score of your campaigns. Quality Score for Google and the search network is a dynamic metric assigned to each of your keywords. It’s calculated using a variety of factors and measures how relevant your keyword is to your ad group and to a user’s search query. The higher a keyword’s Quality Score, the lower its cost-per-clicks (CPCs) and the better its ad position.

Number 3: Not having enough campaigns. Most newbie(s) start with Google Adwords and focus on one campaign, trying it for weeks wasting money. A lot of people who are successful with Google Adwords only have approximately 10%~20% rate of success when they launch new campaigns. The rate of success on new campaigns depends on:

1) How competitive the keyword bidding market is

2) The quality of the landing page

3) The quality and search volume of keywords

4) The quality of ads

5) The amount of money you spend on bidding and your daily budget

People who are new to Google Adwords should launch a few campaigns a week to experience and get comfortable with Google Adwords. That will accelerate the learning curve.

Number 2: Not having enough related keywords. Most newbie(s) start by adding variations to a few keywords related to their product or service. For example, for the keyword fat, Newbie(s) will most likely make variations to it like “fat loss, lose fat fast, fat reduction, easy fast loss, burn fat…etc.” They are missing out a huge section of potential traffic.

What if you ask yourself this question: “How many kinds of fat are there?” You can then develop a “wide list” that’s related to fat – “stomach fat, belly fat, upper arms fat, thigh fat, back fat, booty fat, bat wings, body fat” At that point, you can apply the variations onto these different forms of fat, giving you a list of 100+ keywords related to fat.

Number 1: Not having the keywords in the ads. In the search engine world everything is about relevance. If you have the keywords in your ads Google will reward that and you will pay less and have your ad ranked higher. Most newbie(s) get carried away by having appealing subjects on their ads, but they are paying more for the clicks.

Armil Velos asked:

What is RSS?

You probably have seen this three-letter acronym in the course of your internet surfing. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary; syndicating means republishing an article that comes from another source such as a website.

An RSS is a means of publicizing updates about websites. It may or may not include a summary and photos of the latest posting. But those that provide summaries (thus Rich Site Summary) allow users to skim through the article so that they could decide later on if they want to access the website source. The RSS feed usually contains the title of the update originating from the website. It is also usually the link to the website source.

What are the benefits of RSS?

RSS gives benefits to both readers (users) and web publishers.

1. It gives you the latest updates.

Whether it is about the weather, new music, software upgrade, local news, or a new posting from a rarely-updates site learn about the latest as soon as it comes out.

2. It saves on surfing time.

Since an RSS feed provides a summary of the related article, it saves the user’s time by helping s/he decide on which items to prioritize when reading or browsing the net.

3. It gives the power of subscription to the user.

Users are given a free-hand on which websites to subscribe in their RSS aggregators which they can change at any time they decide differently.

4. It lessens the clutter in your inbox.

Although your email address will be required to enjoy the services of online RSS aggregators, RSS does not use your email address to send the updates.

5. It is spam free.

Unlike email subscriptions, RSS does not make use of your email address to send updates thus your privacy is kept safe from spam mails.

6. Unsubscribing is hassle-free.

Unlike email subscriptions where the user is asked questions on why s/he is unsubscribing and then the user would be asked to confirm unsubscribing, all you have to do is to delete the RSS feed from your aggregator.

7. It can be used as an advertising or marketing tool.

Users who subscribe or syndicate product websites receive the latest news on products and services without the website sending spam mail. This is advantageous to both the web user and the website owner since advertising becomes targeted; those who are actually interested in their products are kept posted.

What are the drawbacks of RSS?

The disadvantages of RSS use are brought about by its being a new technology and some user-preference concerns.

1. Some users prefer receiving email updates over an RSS feed.

2. Graphics and photos do not appear in all RSS feeds.

For conciseness and ease of publication, RSS feeds do not display the photos from the original site in announcing the update except for some web-based aggregators

3. The identity of the source website can be confusing.

Since RSS feeds do not display the actual URL or name of the website, it can sometimes get confusing on what feed a user is actually reading.

4. Publishers cannot determine how many users are subscribed to their feed and the frequency of their visits. Moreover, they would not know the reasons why users unsubscribe which could be important in improving their advertising.

5. RSS feeds create higher traffic and demands on the server.

Most readers still prefer the whole update over a brief summary of the entry, thus they still access the site.

6. Since it is a new technology, many sites still do not support RSS.

How do I start using RSS?

There are two things needed: an RSS feed and an RSS aggregator or reader. The RSS feed comes from an RSS-supported website. There are also websites that provide a list of RSS feeds of different websites. An RSS aggregator is used to read the RSS feed from the source website. It scans and collects data on latest RSS feeds from the worldwide web.

An aggregator comes in two forms: a downloadable program also known as desktop aggregator and an online or web-based aggregator. Downloadable aggregators may require payment before they can be acquired, while internet-based aggregators are usually free of charge. All you need to do is to register an account then you are ready to use their services. Both versions allow you to customize or choose which RSS feeds to enter. Paid aggregators are usually chosen by more experienced users and they usually allow more freedom in customizing feeds.

1. Choose an RSS aggregator to use. For beginners, web-based aggregators are recommended since they are usually user-friendly

2. Scan the homepage of your target website for the RSS or XML button. It contains the RSS code you need to enter in the aggregator. Copy this code. Syndic8 provides a directory of websites that support RSS.

3. Paste the code (which contains the URL of the website) in your aggregator. There is a space provided for pasting the code.

After you have done these three easy steps, you can start reading the RSS feeds coming from the website. New postings appear as they are published real time at the source website.

RSS and Internet Marketing

The original idea of RSS came from Netscape, where their intention is to provide a means for users to customize their personal homepage to contain links to websites that interest them, similar to bookmarking websites.

The application of RSS to internet marketing was an unforeseen development to RSS technology developers. Since users are given the freedom to add RSS feeds to their aggregators, those who are interested in particular products and services available in the internet can now be notified real time. Marketing becomes more specific to interested people and not a hit-and-miss operation.

Those who intend to use RSS for marketing their products and services should consider linking up with email account providers, (e.g. Yahoo, MSN, Google mail); networking websites (e.g. Friendster, Multiply, My Space, Hi5); websites of newspapers and television network websites (e.g. New York Times, CNN) for medium to big-scale companies. Small-time industries can also look into networking websites as well as personal blog websites (e.g. Blogspot) and websites of clubs and organizations that would probably make use of their products or services e.g. a fishing supplies store can look for the website of their local fishing club for possible RSS marketing.

Clearly, RSS is an innovation in information management in the worldwide web as well as online marketing. We can expect better RSS technology in the not-so-distant future as its popularity increases among users and website owners alike.

ANOOP SINGH LUTHRA asked:

RSS marketing is a tool used by many on the Internet to deliver advertisements, emails, customer support responses, ezines to clients and potential clients without the concern of Spam filters hindering the receipt of the email. For more details:www.marketers-traffic-course.com. Spam filters have created serious problems for companies marketing through email and almost 65% of the emails you send are not even opened by the recipient. This really will hurt your business if you do not find a way to get your information to clients and potential clients. That is what RSS marketing is all about, getting your information directly to the client and potential client.

Another reason to consider RSS marketing is because currently web site visibility is very difficult and only getting worse as more and more web pages flood the web. Finding a way to get your web page to be returned as the number one result in such search engines as Google is almost impossible with traditional methods, but is easy with RSS marketing.

Not to mention the increase in advertising costs that make this option almost impossible for most home based internet businesses. If you have found your advertising and marketing methods are not returning the results you had hoped, then consider RSS marketing.

RSS marketing is free as well as user friendly. This internet tool allows even the smaller businesses to compete with the larger ones because getting information to potential customers is not based on money. RSS is a publishing tool for the Internet that handles companies internet marketing and publishing needs. Obviously, every company needs this and especially small companies that rely on business to survive day to day. By using this tool, your company will be able to reach more clients, potential clients, subscribers, and the like all the while increasing your status on the web. For more details:www.free-ad-system.com.There are several things that RSS marketing will do for your home based internet business. First, it will increase your rankings on search engines as well as direct new traffic to your Web site through RSS search engines that target different markets. Traffic is what supports web pages, so increasing your traffic and receiving new traffic is certainly a priority of business owners.

RSS also has the ability to get your URL listed with all search engines fast and easy. No more waiting weeks for your URL to get listed with search engines, RSS marketing allows this to happen almost immediately. This is certainly a good choice for new web pages that are looking to increase web traffic. – Another awesome aspect of RSS marketing is that it can get your web page returned as the number one result for your web pages’ most popular keywords.

Among its other offerings, RSS marketing allows your company to market in different and new ways in order to attract more traffic to your site. This Internet marketing tool is dedicated to getting the most possible attention for your Web site as well as marketing your site in new and interesting ways. Consider using RSS today and see how it changes your marketing strategies and web site traffic.

Blogging is a concept that started in late 90s. It used to be a way to comment an existing webpage, anopportunity for visitors and readers to react or voice out ones opinion on the said page. What started as a single-sentence commentary has evolved into pages of personal take on just about anything and everything under the sun. As it continues to move forward, online advertisinghas tapped into the blogs potential. Here are 5 reasons why you should use blogging as an Internet marking tool.

1.Blogging is simple. The simplest way to get your piece on the net is through blogging. No skills are necessary an average adult can read and type, or at least click a mouse. Its like having a virtual piece of paper and you just write your ideas, experiences, new products, and hope that the truth behind your articles comes out and entice your reader to also try your product. If you have a PC and an Internet connection (who doesnt?) then you can blog and advertise.

2. Blogging is authentic. In this day and age where advertising saturate our lives, we question the credibility of promoters claims. However, in blogs, real people share their real-life experiences, unscathed by paid advertising. Reading blogs about first-hand product use is like talking to people about their first-hand experience. You definitely want to buy a tried and tested product.

3. Blogging is free. Because blogging is yet to be proven as a mainstream online advertising media, most sites see it as something to augment current marketing tool and thus offer it for free. Any opportunity for free webtime is definitely a bonus especially to businesses that are starting up. Needless to say, paid blog pages can generate more income for your seriously growing business.

4. Blogging builds creditbility. As you get more and more into writing your experiences on a particular product or industry, your readers come to realize that they can depend on your posts for their own information needs. As such, you become an expert on it; as a consequence, more readers visit your site and more bloggers link to your blogs. As companies and professional organizations notice the growth of your readership base, they may soon get in touch with you for advertising on your blog page, or make you an affiliate, which pays for every referral generated from your blog site.

5. Blogging builds your market. Unless you are a Hollywood star, chances are, only your Mom reads your posts. Mom has a lot of friends, so she lets her friends know how interesting your blog site is. But you need not depend on Mom to increase your readership base. Look into the following ways to build your market through blogging:

-By using your e-mail. Today, blogging is overcoming the e-mails popularity in quickly and effectively reaching and expanding a market. In this age of speed and quick access, logging in and downloading e-mail is simply taking longer than clicking into a blog site. Let them explore your site by using a short e-mail message as teaser to your blog site. If your e-mail is on an entirely different subject, use your e-mail signature to give a link to the site.

-By using subscription. An easy way to get your readers e-mail is to give them an opportunity tosubscribe to your blogsite. Keep some exclusive information for your subscribers to entice readers to subscribe and give their e-mail address. Just be responsible in using their e-mail address, as the last thing you want is a comment on your blog that you are a spammer.

-By understanding your readers. Conduct a simple survey for your readers to understand their profile and advertising preferences. Ask consumers to give you feedback on a post, an ad link, or a trial that you shared. In this way, it is like interviewing your readers without the commitment and intrusion of a face-to-face interview.

-By joining a blog network A network of blogs maybe a collection of blog sites that share the same industry, interest, readership base, payment mode, etc. Consumers find credibility and convenience in clicking one link to several real bloggers about a single subject. Clearly, more bloggers are better than one.

-By using RSS. RSS is the fastest growing technology on the Internet today. As such, having RSS feeds to your blog is definitely another means of generating awareness for your readership base. Having a variety of feeds can add interest to your blog site.

Give your business a boost by effectively using blogging as an Internet marketing tool .

Misunderstanding #1: We Need Separate Print Pages- This idea fails because bloggers link to print pages due to how much easier they are to read. The right way to go about doing this is to create a separate style sheet for medium print, and if the browser does it correctly, it will display a print preview.

Misunderstanding #2: We Need an Alternative Mobile Web.. WML, the WAP’s Wireless Markup Language, is dead today. The fact that the same document can be used in a variety of circumstances, and that the browser simply requests the stylesheet needed – or uses its own, by default – is not an intuitive one to grasp. Most real world objects don’t behave that way, changing their shape and behavior depending on what is needed. So today, you’ll see many companies creating an alternative mobile web when, in fact, it is really not necessary.

Misunderstanding #3: Accessibility Means to Always Use Alt Text- The meaning of alt text serves as a replacement when the HTML image cannot be seen. Some of the reasons that images may not be accessible include any one of the following: the user is blind, the medium doesn’t support images, the user disabled images on purpose so she can browse on low-bandwidth. However, if the image is only being used to illustrate a point that is later repeated in the text, then there really isn’t a need to use alt text to begin with.

Suppose you have two website owners, Alice and Bob. Alice runs a company called AliceCo and Bob runs BobCo. One day while looking at Bob’s site, Alice notices that Bob has copied some of the words that she uses in her “keywords” meta tag. Even more interesting, Bob has added the words “AliceCo” to his “keywords” meta tag. Should Alice be concerned?

At least for Google’s web search results currently (September 2009), the answer is no. Google doesn’t use the “keywords” meta tag in our web search ranking. This video explains more, or see the questions below.

Q: Does Google ever use the “keywords” meta tag in its web search ranking?

A: In a word, no. Google does sell a Google Search Appliance, and that product has the ability to match meta tags, which could include the keywords meta tag. But that’s an enterprise search appliance that is completely separate from our main web search. Our web search (the well-known search at Google.com that hundreds of millions of people use each day) disregards keyword metatags completely. They simply don’t have any effect in our search ranking at present.

Q: Why doesn’t Google use the keywords meta tag?

A: About a decade ago, search engines judged pages only on the content of web pages, not any so-called “off-page” factors such as the links pointing to a web page. In those days, keyword meta tags quickly became an area where someone could stuff often-irrelevant keywords without typical visitors ever seeing those keywords. Because the keywords meta tag was so often abused, many years ago Google began disregarding the keywords meta tag.

Q: Does this mean that Google ignores all meta tags?

A: No, Google does support several other meta tags. This meta tags page documents more info on several meta tags that we do use. For example, we do sometimes use the “description” meta tag as the text for our search results snippets, as this screenshot shows:

Even though we sometimes use the description meta tag for the snippets we show, we still don’t use the description meta tag in our ranking.

Q: Does this mean that Google will always ignore the keywords meta tag?

A: It’s possible that Google could use this information in the future, but it’s unlikely. Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for years and currently we see no need to change that policy.
