Home business owners from all types of companies are often searching for ways to marketing their product or service online at the lowest cost. This has never been more common than now, where business owners have a slew of social networking resources to use to their advantages. Blogging is thought of as the foundation of these resources that DubLi associates have been exploiting to attract new prospects. These five points will explore how blogs have bolstered DubLi business building online.

Readers. Always seek to understand your readers. Conduct simple surveys to get a feel for their profile and small business preferences. Ask prospects for feedback on a given post, ad link, or a recommendation you shared. This is similar to interviewing your readers but without the commitment and intrusion of a face-to-face meeting.

Email Adresses. Whereas ten years ago everyone was getting their first email address, today people are getting their first blog. In the age of high speed and quick access, logging in and downloading e-mail sometimes takes longer than clicking into blog site. Allow readers to explore your DubLi blog by first using a short e-mail message as teaser to your blog site. If your e-mail is on an entirely different subject, use your e-mail signature to give a link to the site.

Subscriptions. A simple way to capture your blog readers email address is giving them the opportunity to subscribe. Keep some exclusive information solely for your subscribers. This will enhance the perceived value of the information and thus your overall blog. Other non-subscribed readers will want to join to find out what else is offered.

RSS. This is a quickly growing component to blogging since it has the capability to virally grow your blogs popularity. Each blog has its own RSS feed which is obtained by clicking on the small orange icon in the address bar. You can use the blogs RSS feed web address by subsequently using a pinging service. These services, such as Pingoat or Pingomatic, will at little to no cost disperse your link to all the major directories and search engines. Doing this will enhance your likelihood of your DubLi blog being indexed in Google.

Blog Networks. A giant network of related blogs makes up a blog network, such as My Blog Log or Blog Catalog. These networks typically aggregate blogs from the same industry, interest, readership base, payment mode, etc. Consumers find credibility and convenience in clicking one link to several real bloggers about a single subject. Clearly, more bloggers are better than one.

business etiquetteOver the next few weeks, I will be sharing some tips on business etiquette from the book titled Business Etiquette in Brief by Ann Marie Sabath.  First off, let’s start with how you can make a positive and powerful first impression.  The following is a summation of 4 various categories or ways that this can be achieved.

I. Make Your First 10 Words Count

  • The most effective way to open an interaction with a person is to begin by thanking them.
  • Always try to include the person’s full name when thanking them, and make sure you know how to pronounce their name correctly!

II. Tune Into Others

  • Eye contact is always a plus when dealing with others.  You would be surprised at how easily people can read your facial expressions and body language, so watch how you act!

III. Walk With a Purpose

  • There is a definite difference between the walk of someone who has no direction in life versus someone who is confident, upbeat and ready to take on the world.  Make sure that you are in the latter half!

IV. Groom Yourself Properly

  • Your hair should be neatly trimmed and shaped in a way that flatters your face and brings out positive features.  Not sure?  Consult a professional hairstylist.  You would be surprised at how a simple haircut or hairstyle change can dramatically change how you look.
  • Wear jewelry that is tasteful.  Remember, you are what you wear!  That being said, no one wants to see gold chains hanging off your neck like Mr. T at a job interview!
  • For the guys: make sure that your shirts fit properly.  Use the ‘one finger test’ by placing your index finger between the collar and the neck.  If there’s enough room to slip your finger, you will feel more comfortable and less like you are choking.
  • People often don’t pay attention to their shoes, but they need to.  For both guys and gals, make sure that the shoes you wear aren’t ratty looking or scuffed up.  If you need to, you may have to have your shoes shined and/or repaired.
  • Finally, for the guys: No one wants to know when the flood is coming.  That being said, wear socks that are long enough to cover your calves so that when you sit down you aren’t putting on a show for the entire office.  You may also want to check to see that your pants are long enough to begin with!

5 Great Podcasting Sites to Check Out

In recent years, the word ‘podcasting’ has begun to spring up more and more.  With more and more people becoming fascinated with this term and wanting to know what it’s about, I figured it’s only fair to provide a definition.

According to the Podcasting Tools website, podcasting is:

…the syndication of audio files using RSS. Podcasting works the same as a standard RSS feed reader or news aggregator, the only difference is that the feed you subscribe to contains an audio file in it. Instead of reading content in your RSS feed reader or aggregator, you can listen to the contents of your feed using a reader or aggregator that supports podcasting, or you can listen to them on an iPod or similar device. While podcasting was named for the iPod, you do not have to have an iPod to listen to a podcast. Podcasts can be displayed on websites with clickable links to audio files and many of the standard RSS readers, like FeedDemon’s latest beta, have begun supporting audio enclosures.

When Would I Use Podcasting?

People use podcasting for various reasons.  Think of it like having an mp3 player or cd player.  Podcasting is great because you can take the audio with you wherever you go.  This allows you to keep up with your favorite talk shows or other television shows.  It is also ideal for people who are trying to learn something.  For example, podcasting can be used to help you improve your yoga stances or pilates stances.  You can use podcasting to help tell stories to your children at bedtime.  Lastly, you can go for on a guided museum tour or follow a fitness routine, not to mention the fact that podcasting is great for those who are visually impaired!

We perceive Web 2.0 as this complex environment where there’s lots of variables, lots of [filtering], lots of stuff going on…but really, what it boils down to is there’s two people sharing a piece of content or an experience…And that’s what we really try to replicate on icanhascheezburger.  It’s like ‘Hey Dude, I found this funny picture; let me show it to you.’ and the other person says, ‘Wow, this is funny.’ You have a shared experience, and every single piece of Web 2.0 content or success has a building block of just two people.  -Ben Huh
