This is an exciting week for me, and hopefully you too. Why?

When was the last time you used a Yellow Book? Personally, I can’t remember. I dusted mine off the shelf for this episode, and I’d love to know if you’re like me, using online tools to search for local suppliers, rather than books like the Yellow Pages.

The question that’s raised is all about how to spy on competitors pay per click campaigns. It is possible, and I’ve got two web resources for you, one of which is free.

Many people mistype words when they type a domain name into a browser. This is for a number of reasons that I’ll explain, some of which might be surprising to you. Fortunately, there’s an excellent free tool that will tell you what the likely mistakes are for any domain name, even one you haven’t registered yet. This is really useful because you might want to register some of those mis-spelled names and register them, in order to forward the visitor to your website.

Finally, the show wraps up with a big marketing lesson from Dell, the computer company. Dell sent me an invitation to their ’signature event’ which caught my attention, and so I’ll explain why ‘event’ based marketing is so effective for ANY business. Yes, including yours.

GotBiz.tv has now launched – 9/9/09! This new network for entrepreneurs aims to educate entrepreneurs in an unconventional way and prove that business doesn’t have to be boring. I like to read. A lot. Actually, I aim to consume 2 new business books each week. One of the best books I’ve read recently is “How to sell when nobody’s buying” by Dave Lakhani. If you’re in sales, you MUST read this ground-breaking book.

This week’s question is all about how to reassure nervous buyers on e-commerce websites. Watch the show to discover the answer.

d you know tha there’s a significant competitor to Craigslist in the USA? It has a slightly cleaner look and layout that Craigslist in my opinion. Check it out.

There’s a new part of the show – ’success stories’. I love hearing YOUR succes stories about how you implement the suggestions in the show, so keep ‘em coming. You can submit your results using the ‘ask andrew’ link at the top of the page, and you can win an incredible prize, something from my travels ;)

Finally, the big lesson of the week, from Liberty Mutual. They teamed up with Home Depot in a very clever marketing strategy called ‘integration marketing’.

What’s going on with taxi drivers? I was down in San Diego last weekend and on every trip I took around town, the taxi drivers decided on their own tip, by giving me back my change, LESS their tip! What’s up with that?!

This week’s ‘Ask Andrew’ question is all about web design from…a web designer. That’s okay. Many designers favor form over function, or marketing effectiveness. I’ll give my suggestions, including why you should NOT use flash in your web design if you want it to be found by the search engines.

The ‘nifty click’ resource is a company that enables you to create a bookstore quality book, with a minimum quantity of just one! Price varies according to how many you order, and the number of pages in the book.

The BIG marketing lesson comes from Jamba Juice, who have opened up a new market for themselves by offering a delivery service. Fax your order, and it can be delivered. The key lesson is widening out the way you do business.

Blogging has become a very lucrative online earning opportunity and more and more people are getting interested in making it a full time job. Some are even inclined to quit their regular day job in favor of professional blogging because of all the success stories that they have been reading about. In reality, blog profit can be very lucrative especially of you have knowledge in the inner workings of the blogging business.

One way in which you can earn blog profit is through advertising that is, proving an avenue for online businesses to market their products and services on your blog site. You can also write about certain products and services on a blog site and be paid for it. It is fairly easier to become a writer for an existing blogging site than making your own blog site and making it popular.

Writing paid reviews is also a great way to make lucrative blog profit. Online businesses are always looking for bloggers to write good reviews on their products and services and they are willing to pay handsomely for it. The rationale behind paid reviews is that they become constant advertisements that will be very helpful in making more sales.

If you can manage to make your very own blog site popular, there is a very good chance that online businesses will track you down and offer to forge an advertising agreement with you which will turn into sustainable income. Serious money starts to come in when you have successfully infiltrated mainstream business.

Great news from Disney!  One of their executives phoned me the other day.  They had watched the episode where I told you about the dining disaster at Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom, Florida.  You’ll discover what they told me and I think you’ll be as pleased as I was.

Thanks to Reuven who alerted me to an excellent video by marketing agency 22Squared.  Let me know what you think of it.

Our question comes from Louie Bernstein, who tells me that he’s needs more people to try his software, so it’s an issue of conversion.  I dissect his website and give some suggestions about how to improve the conversion.  You can apply the same principles to your website.

Microsoft Mesh is a relatively new service that’s currently free.  It allows you to easily transfer files between computers, say a desktop PC in the office with a laptop you use when you travel.  I used to use a service called ‘BeInSync’ which worked well until the company went out of business!  At least Microsoft aren’t going anywhere, so I feel good about using their service.  Actually, it’s very impressive.

The BIG marketing lesson is from the restaurant chain TGI Friday’s.  The way they promote their loyalty scheme is very impressive.  There’s 3 key points that I want you to take away to adapt in your business.  See if you can spot them.

Enjoy the show!

Blogging which was formally known as Weblog started in 1994. It shortened form Blog was adopted in 1997. Before now, a Weblog was more like a diary where people on a daily basis write about anything and everything ranging from just ideas to interests, thoughts, stories, passion, jokes, and the list is endless!

Now the new modernized Blog is an online journal or weblog where you post news, articles, videos or hobbies, sport, fashion, game and so on.

Since people realized how profitable blogging could be and the fact that search engines prefer blogs to websites, blogging has become more and more popular. According to Mr. Alvin Phang in his book Atomic Blogging 3.0, online blogs has rapidly risen from 55million as at 2006 to well over 150 million in 2008.What an increase! And the number keeps multiplying itself everyday.

Now there must be something people get from blogging to warranty such increase in such a short time, dont you think? The reason for the increase is because people now use blogs as a means of advertising their products and services. Even companies are now creating their presence online using blogs rather than websites.

Blogging -A Passion NOT a Business

If you want to enjoy blogging and have fun while you make good money from it, you have to assume that nothing has changed about blogging. It is still a weblog where you can write whatever you want to write on a daily basis. If you see it as a hobby instead of a business, you will enjoy filling it with details everyday without grumbling.

You cant succeed in blogging if you dont write and post on your blog regularly so if you can make writing your hobby, you will have fun making money with it.

The only difference in keeping a diary and blogging is that while in diary you just write without paying attention to the VALUE of your content, organization, grammar, and keywords, in writing a blog post you have to have your prospective readers in mind. When people visit your blog and get nothing of Value from it, trust me when I say they will Not return to your blog.To keep them coming back, your content should be Valuable, straight to the point, short and interesting. Make it amusing if you can,(still keeping to the point). I know I have read some few blog posts that left me with a Smile!

Do not be so intent on making money at the beginning of your blogging, because it could discourage you if you dont immediately start making money. Rather concentrate on providing valuable information to people and the rest will follow in time.

The aim of your blog should be to let people know through your content what you are good at and then capture leads to make you the Money.

When you keep providing your readers with something valuable and interesting they will keep coming and in time you will start getting tons and tons of traffic to your blog which will eventually translate to Money. Simple!

Take the example of Mr. Alvin Phang, he is presently one of the most successful bloggers. Here is a quote I picked from the early chapters of his Amazing book, Atomic Blogging 3.0, he said: Blogging then was pretty new to me and all I knew was just to write. When I started writing, I really hated it but as I realized I began to write more and more on my blog. I was getting more and more visitors everyday to my blog. What was once a hobby became a real full time business of blogging, from a total nobody online, I was now getting well over 40,000 visits on my blog on monthly basis And since 2006 that he started blogging till date he has been able to generate well over $222,579 transactions online. That is amazing! Youd say. It could be you if you are determined, persistent and make available valued based information. You can check out more details about Alvin Phang secrets at: http://tinyurl.com/n2pnvp

Karo Itoje is a writer and an internet marketing expert. She presently owns a blog that regularly updates it readers on any and every legitimate online work at home businesses available. You can count on the blog to provide you with accurate information on making money online especially through blogging.

I start this week’s show with an amusing exchange between one of those Nigerian scammers and an Australian guy, and it all happened on Skype.

Awhile back Business Week had an issue that featured ‘the pet economy’, which, it turns out is not just big, but HUGE business, and maybe that could include you too?

This week’s question is probably on your mind too – how do you promote your site better? See if the tips I give can be applied to your website.

I love Lifehacker. It’s a difficult to describe blog with an amazing array of useful content. At least, I think so. Let me know what YOU think of it.

The BIG marketing lesson is from M&M’s candies, or is that sweets as we say in Britain? ;) It’s a marketing concept that most businesses can adopt.

Another packed show for you this week…

Have you heard about the ‘United Breaks Guitars’ video that’s gone viral online? I talk about that, and how United Airlines really dropped the ball. They now look like a bunch of fools in my opinion because they acted too late.

I’ll also announce the winner of the Magical Marketing Experience competition for 2009/10. I’m thrilled to give this tremendous prize to a very deserving winner. If you entered, it could be you…

The ‘ask andrew’ question is all about creating viral media. I’ll explain that although it’s impossible to design something that’s guaranteed to go viral, there are some principles you can learn and understand that will at least help you go in the right direction.

How about a nice new nifty click? When I buy a new computer there’s one important piece of software I install before I do anything else with it. Any idea what it is? Well, it’s free, and you can find out more in this episode.

The BIG marketing lesson is from Delta airlines. They’ve done something very different, and it’s a great idea that you can adapt to help your business.

Enjoy the show!

Why Do We Love Commercials and Advertising?

Answer: because it entertains us!

Over the years and with the improvements that we have seen in technology, commercials have taken on a mind of their own becoming more creative, catchy and enticing us to watch them all the way through.  However, lately it seems that a lot of television commericals are created so that the consumer doesn’t even know what is being sold until the end of the commercial.  Check out the following commercial to see if you can figure out what is being advertised.

I was down in Florida last week and spent a day at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World.  There’s only one high-end restaurant in the park, called ‘Cinderella’s Magic Table’ and it’s located inside the castle in the center of the park.  Well, it turned out to be a disaster, and in this episode I’ll tell you why.

My background is in video production so I’m fairly knowledegable about technology.  If you’ve wondered what the best camera for web video is, I’ll answer that for you this week.

I love freebies, and there’s a great resource called Giveaway of the day that I frequent because I can get all kinds of software completely free, each day.  Each offer is only available for a single day, after that the normal price reverts, but I’ve snagged some great finds on this site.

The BIG lesson this time is in what NOT to do with your advertising.  It’s from Valenti, a company that does match making, and their ad is truly awful from a marketing perspective in my opinion.  I’ll show you what they did wrong so you can learn from it in your own business.

Enjoy the show!
